Violent thugs who smashed their way into a brothel before two of them raped and robbed two sex workers have been jailed for a total of 43 years.

Edmilson Caimanque and David Fonseca armed themselves with knives and an axe when they targeted the brothel in Hackney, east London, before carrying out the attack.

Adilson Mendes-Namdja-Uare was also convicted of robbery.

The victims had been staying at the brothel for three days when they were attacked on June 12, 2019.

Wood Green Crown Court heard after raping the women they robbed them off £1,250 and a mobile phone before fleeing.

They also took the building’s CCTV system with them to try and avoid detection, My London reports.

The court heard an investigation was launched by the police after a patient reported she had been raped at a sexual health clinic on Thursday, June 13 2019.

The police were then able to locate the second victim and both were medically examined.

DNA evidence from the examination linked Caimanque to both rapes and a review of phone data showed him to be within the vicinity of the scene at the time of the incident.

CCTV evidence identified two other people of interest to the police and after reviewing mobile phone activity Mendes-Namdja-Uare and Fonseca were identified as suspects.

Further review of phone activities and movement showed both suspects have been at the same place at the time of the incident.

Caimanque and Mendes-Namdja-Uare were arrested at their home addresses on the morning of July 9, 2019.

Police searched both properties and recovered clothing linking them to the scene. Fonseca was arrested on July 11.

Caimanque, 24, from Newham, east London, was found guilty of two counts of robbery and two counts of rape.

He faces two concurrent sentences – 18 years’ imprisonment for rape and nine years’ imprisonment for the robbery.

Mendes-Namdja-Uare, 23, also from Newham, was found guilty of two counts of robbery and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

Fonseca, 27, from Stratford, east London, was found guilty of one count of rape and two counts of robbery.

He was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for rape and nine years’ imprisonment for robbery. The sentences will be served concurrently.

Detective Sergeant Adam Knott, from the Met’s Central East Public Protection unit, said: “These men attacked two women who were sleeping in what should have been the safety of their own home.

“The evidence gathered, during what was an extremely complex and detailed investigation, led to the identification of all three defendants.

“The conviction and subsequent sentencing of these men is testament to the bravery of the two women who were attacked and I commend them for coming forward to report these horrendous crimes.

“The resulting sentence against these dangerous offenders may well have prevented other women from being harmed.”
